Flick Off!

A fairly straightforward hole - just rattle it around the corners.
Flick Off is my first attempt at writing a PocketPC game. It's also my first attempt at writing a game in C++ too (so please make allowances).

The idea for the game came about simply because a) I needed a nice small game to get my teeth into as a first project, and b) because I think the stylus is such a cool input device, and I'm absolutely amazed that I've not managed to find a single game yet that uses it for something nice and tactile like Flick Off! does/tries to do. Please let me know if you know of any others...

This hole can be a bitch! Get the first shot right, or you could be in a world of hurt!

Basically the game is kinda like mini-golf, in that you have to get a small round object (a puck, rather than a ball) into a slightly larger round hole in the fewest shots possible. The difference with Flick Off! is that shots are taken by using the stylus to flick the puck around the screen, which (I hope) makes it quite a lot of fun to play. Admittedly, it does take a little while to get used to (and even then you may fluff the occasional shot for no readily apparent reason*) but the satisfaction of sinking a tricky hole-in-one should make up for this.

The game also comes with an editor, allowing you to create your own holes to play too.

Things to note:

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Mark Neesam be liable for any special, incidental, indirect, or consequential damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of business profits, loss of business information, any other pecuniary loss, loss of any other data (including loss of cherished pornagraphic imagery), alarming fizzing noises, explosions, burning smells and melting) arising out of the use of Flick Off!

LIMITATION OF TALENT:
I'm an artist by profession, not a coder, and nasty maths makes by brain hurt. Therefore the collision routines in Flick Off! are extraordinarily ropey and have been frigged to a quite remarkable level to achieve some semblance of predictable behaviour. I'm fairly happy with the end result, and so this is almost certainly as good as it is going to get. Therefore, it probably isn't worth reporting dubious collision bugs to me (unless you have some really spectacularly wrong stuff going on on a regular basis) because I will do my best to ignore them.

Flick Off! is freeware. Versions are available for MIPS, ARM and SH3 machines. It was developed on a Cassiopeia EM500, so should work fine for these at least. The only other machine it has been tested on is an IPAQ 3630 - it seems to work fine, albeit very slowly (I will look to improve this soon).

Feel free to report any compatability issues to me, and I'll look into fixing them.

The game comes in a standard zip archive. To install the game extract this to your PC (maintaining the directory structure) and then copy the resulting directory (and all the contents) to your PocketPC (it shouldn't matter where). The game directory will take up around 420Kb.

You will also need to have GAPI1.2 installed for the game to work. You can get this here. Simply unzip it and copy "gx.dll" from the relevant processor directory to your windows directory.

The last hole, and a dilemma. Left is easier, right is an amazingly tough shot, but a possible hole-in-one!
